Matt and I are not world travelers. Maybe someday I’ll be one of those women sailing off on one of my many yearly cruises around Europe or scaling the tops of Mt. Kilimanjaro or camping in all of the National Parks of America. Until then I’ll have to settle for seeing these places on Google Earth or by living vicariously through my Facebook friends.
Even though the Hunter family does not travel extensively, it does seem like we leave home fairly often. Whether it’s youth camp in New Mexico, Dnow in the fall, Winter Camp in the spring, Christmas at the family’s place, or a quick weekend getaway, plenty of times to pack a suitcase present themselves.
And I hate packing.
I love going on trips, but I tend to wait until the last minute to throw everything into my suitcase.
In high school there were summers where I would leave home for days every other week. At these times I would just leave my suitcase open on the floor and repack them every few days. I hated racking my brain each trip trying not to forget my favorite shampoo or **horror** my deodorant. This lead me to keep a bathroom bag packed at all times; this way, I never forgot a thing. I just threw the bathroom bag into my suitcase and wham! I always had my essentials.
Here’s a list of things that I keep in my bathroom bag at all times:
- Travel size shampoo and conditioner
- Disposable razor
- Bar of soap in a plastic sandwich bag
- Tube of toothpaste
- Q-tips & cotton balls also in a plastic sandwich bag
- Shower gel (for shaving)
- Hair ties & bobby pins
- Nail clippers
- Travel size fingernail polish remover
With this bag, I never have to worry about forgetting something I may need on my trip. Plus, should I run out of an item while at home, I always have a back-up! (Just don’t forget to replace if you take something out of the bag.) Hope this helps you be more organized for trips. It’s too bad I can’t just have another wardrobe always clean and packed in a suitcase…
